Wilson's popularity travelled to the United States during 2014 when she was a guest on Showtimes The Affair. She was Alison Lockhart, a young woman who is struggling with her past and becomes involved with Noah Solloway. Wilson was honored with the Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in an Television Series in Drama 2015, along with Mauratierney and Joshua Jackson. Wilson told British Vogue, "I loved getting to portray the character that has both sides of the story." Noah thinks of Alison in this confident, reckless sexy version of her. But in real life, Alison views herself as being dowdy. The actress said "I believe that America is such a moralistic society and so judgemental. What happens in the show appears horrifying." Wilson quit the show in 2018 after a lot of fans' dismay, though she was vague about the details. I wanted to leave however it's not my place to say what the reasons are. Wilson said this in an interview with CBS This Morning conducted in August of 2018. Wilson is currently shifting her attention towards films. Wilson was a part of the horror thriller I Am the Pretty Thing Living in the Home, which premiered in 2016 and also played the mysterious PT Stella as the Sci-Fi romantic comedy How to Talk to Girls a Parties. Wilson will add another film of horror in her resume when she appears in the British remake of The Little Stranger, a supernatural thriller based upon the book by Sarah Waters. Wilson will be executive producing the film.
